Witnessing the police in action

The parcel was too irresistible to take, but what if there was a bomb? I had a hard and difficult time making up my mind. I scanned around the dark and deserted lane and no one was looking at me. In the end, I decided to take the parcel. But wait, what was that shuffling sound? It sounded like someone was coming!

I quickly dived forward for the parcel that was near the bench and took it. I ran away from the sound. I turned around to see what made the noise but it was too dark. I kept running blindly and knocked into something warm and had a sense of guilt.

A voice boomed like thunder, “Put the parcel back!”

I obeyed his words because I thought I was going to be beheaded if I did not put back the parcel so I ran back to the bench, placing the parcel nicely on the ground. Then, when I thought that I was safe, a big, hairy hand grabbed me by the arm and I was dragged into a thorny bush. I instantly thought that it was the end of my world! But behind the bush were five policemen.

One of them coaxed me, “We are not here to kidnap you but we are ‘kidnapping’ two kidnappers. The parcel you just held was just a ruse to trick the kidnappers here so we can catch the no-good-rotten-dirty-kidnappers! We put in dried leaves into the parcel to give it some weight. Stay here and watch us catch the kidnappers!”

For a moment, I felt both relieved and excited to see the police arresting the kidnappers in action and how they arrested the thugs.

True enough, about a good ten minutes later, two suspicious-looking men came and took the parcel and walked away, laughing evilly about how they would kill the hostages when they get back to their base. But they did not know that the police had hijacked their van. The two men got into their van and tried to turn on the engine but to no avail. The senior police officer radioed to the police station to request for reinforcements.

Five minutes later, while the two helpless men were fixing the van, the police came. Twenty trained policemen spilled out onto the lane. Knowing that they had been tricked, the kidnappers tried to put up a fight but knowing that they were surrounded, the kidnappers eventually surrendered. They released the hostages that had been tortured badly for three days.

The kidnappers were arrested and escorted to the waiting police car.

Crime never ever pays!
