Making assumptions

1. Old Mac Donald had a farm. On his farm, there were only cows
and chickens which had a total of 41 heads and 100 legs. Find
the number of chickens and the number of cows on his farm.

2. Frank spent $216 on a total of 28 butter cakes. He paid $9 for
each large cake and $5 for each small butter cake. How many
large butter cakes did he buy?

3. On Tree Planting day, 40 pupils planted some trees. Each boy planted 3 trees
and each girl planted 2 trees. The boys planted 30 more trees than the girls.
How many boys were there?

4. 60 children took part in a Street Soccer Competition. If each girl scored 3
goals and each boy scored 2 goals and the girls scored 20 more goals than the
boys, how many girls were there?

5. Mrs Lee had some sweets to give away to her 50 pupils. Each boy received 5
sweets and each girl received 3 sweets. The boys received 90 more sweets
than the girls. How many boys were there?
