Picture Writing - False Alarm by Belinda (unedited)

The hallway was deserted. There was not a single soul in sight. It was so quiet, so quiet till you could hear a pin drop. But the quietness was interrupted by two boys, Ken and Danny, who were notorious in school for their pranks on both teachers and students. Both of them were supposed to be at the canteen as it was recess time. However, they seemed to have grown tired in playing at the field and parade ground and they had come up to the third floor of the school, hungry for some fun.
“What do you want to do?” Danny asked in a bored voice, while at the same time, fiddling with his water bottle.
“How would I know? Anyway, we’re the only ones here. We can do whatever we want,” Ken shrugged as he looked around.
Suddenly, Ken caught sight of the fire alarm which was housed in a small cabinet with a glass pane in front. A mischievous thought struck Ken. A smirk started spreading on his face.
“Hey, Danny, look!” Ken pointed to the fire alarm. Danny turned around and caught sight of it. Danny glanced at Ken. Ken caught his eye and smiled a cunning smile.
As if the duo could read each others’ mind, they raced towards the fire alarm at top speed. Danny, being the faster one, reached the fire alarm first.
Danny turned his water bottle around, took aim, and hit the glass pane. The glass smashed into smithereens and instantly, the fire alarm came to life.
“Riiinng!” Too loud for comfort, the duo covered their ears.
“Nice one, Danny!” Ken shouted over the loud ringing as he hit his back lightly playfully.
Danny shrugged, which seemed to say: ‘It’s no big deal’. After about two minutes, the ringing stopped and the screams and squeals of the pupils could be heard on the ground floor. Both boys seemed to enjoy the screaming and shouting of the panicked pupils.
“Come on, let’s go down now. Someone might realize that we’re missing,” Ken nudged Danny.
Danny nodded and started running. But luck was not on their side.
“Stop! Both of you stop!” a loud voice thundered.
The boys froze in horror. Slowly, they turned around and got the shock of their lives! Their principal, Mr. Tan, was standing a few metres away from them, seething with rage.
Apparently, Mr. Tan had been watching them along. The boys stood rooted to the ground, with their mouths opening and closing, like fishes out of water.
“You boys are in deep trouble. Follow me to the office now!” Mr. Tan bawled.
Hobson’s choice, they followed Mr. Tan. Both Danny and Ken were prepared for the worst……
